How to spot a drone over your house

See something in the sky that does not look right? You do not need a detector on the first pass. You need your ears, your eyes, and a quiet minute.
First — listen. Most consumer drones make a high-pitched, continuous buzz that does not rise and fall like a motorbike or helicopter. If the sound stays in one place, that is a clue.
Second — look for the shape. A small, steady black or grey object that hovers or moves slowly in a straight line is a strong signal. Birds flap. Planes do not hover. At dusk or night, look for small lights — red, green, or white.
Third — watch how it moves. Hovering over the same yard. Slow passes. Repeated loops. Sharp direction changes. That pattern is more useful than guessing the brand.
You do not need to identify the model. You only need to decide: is this likely a drone, and is it hanging around? If yes, stay on the ground and document it.
